Our History

 
When PES, Progressive Employer Services, was founded in 1999,  we had four people and one mission - “Focus on the Customer.”  That philosophy continues to be one of our core values and has been the foundation for PES being one of the fastest growing companies in Florida and one of the largest professional employer organizations (PEOs) in the country.  By focusing on the fundamentals, maintaining uncompromising integrity and being relentless in attending to the details, we have consistently and dramatically increased our revenues and client base since our inception. 

In 2005 we earned the Workers’ Compensation / Risk Management Best Practices Certification. This special certification provides independent verification that our Risk Management program meets or exceeds insurance industry best practices to reduce work related accidents, health exposures and control Workers’ Compensation insurance losses.

We then acquired the assets of Tampa-based Sunwest PEO of Florida and Southeast Employee Management Company (SEMCO) of West Palm Beach, Florida. The acquisitions made us one of the largest PEOs in Florida and the country.  

In 2007, we were ranked number nine as the highest grossing companies in Sarasota and Manatee counties by Biz 941.  Later, we were honored with the Industry of the Year Award by the Economic Development Council of Manatee County.  The recognition was for growth, capital investment and workplace environment.  Later, for the third consecutive year, we were honored by the Tampa Bay Business Journal as one of the “50 Fastest Growing Companies” in the Tampa Bay area. 

The year 2008 was also filled with accolades. In May, Florida Trend Magazine listed PES number 42 in Florida’s top 200 private companies.  And, our President and Chief Operating Officer, Michael Corley, was elected President of the Florida Association of Professional Employer Organizations (FAPEO).
